Supporting ‘David’s Law’ in Texas
David’s Law encourages schools to prevent and fight against cyberbullying.
The law was passed and signed into law effective on September 1st 2017. Requiring school districts in Texas to include cyberbullying in their district bullying policies and notify parents if their child is a victim of cyberbullying or is the alleged aggressor.
Cyberbullying
Cyberbullying is defined by David’s Law as “bullying arising from a pattern of acts or one significant act that is done through the use of any electronic communication device.
This includes a cellular or other type of telephone, a computer, a camera, electronic mail, instant messaging, text messaging, a social media application, an Internet website or any other Internet-based communication tool”.
How has David’s Law made a Difference?
David’s Legacy Foundation has already helped 192 families with legal advice for severe bullying issues.
According to a CDC survey, between the years 2017 and 2019 there were 20% fewer students bullied electronically in Texas schools and 23% fewer suicide attempts among Texas students.
